MASTER INQUISITOR'S TALE
As the master inquisitor stood
before the frozen statue of Balthazar
located deep within the shiverpeaks
at the entrance of the underworld,
her mind raced with thoughts of
familiarity. Distorted and shadowed
memories of being a very young
spawn barely able to walk. Shrill
sounds of battle and the war cries
of humans.
The memories were coming faster
now...a gothic castle on an island,
classes for writing, astronomy,
weapons training and torture...
a woman that she would call mother,
a lord inquisitor, a mentor, and
a master. Memories of her first
hunt and torture of a heretic,
then smell of him burning on a
stake. By the time she was fourteen
she was hunting heretics and monsters
on her own, some for hire, some
for more personal reason, but
all fell before the inquisitor's
blade.
That was how she earned her title
of Master Inquisitor and was given
a gift by her mentor, a clear
blue shield and a golden glowing
axe. She was told thay were her
birthright, a gift from her true
home. As memories faded from her
mind she focused on the task at
hand: tracking down a heretic,
a man that once belonged to one
of the most ancient and distinguished
house in all of Tyria who betrayed
everyone he called brother and
sister. Once his clan leader held
him in the highest regard but
now this monk that casts illusions
is nothing more then prey for
Farseers blade. She was not sure
how far she could trust her employer
Fezz, leader of the Charter Vanguard,
given their prey's past but he
seemed a pious man and he did
not falter or burn in the gaze
of the inquisitor. According to
Collector Stonegrimm her prey
traded some stone summit badges
and troll tusks for a monk energy
weapon and a mezmer domination
weapon then entered the underworld
not more then twelve hours ago
and soon this two-week chase will
be at a end. Minions will be needed
to continue the hunt and the collector's
body will give what is needed.
His sacrifice will be appreciated
by the vanguard and besides death
is the servant of the righteous. |
