TRISTAN THANATHOS
Tristan walked into the local
pub and as usual everyone stopped
talking to have a quick look at
him then continue with their conversations;
the tall, canthan necromancers'
black hair covered his eyes and
the cuts on his face were quite
recent, his green and black clothes
made him stand out more than he
would anyway. He stalked over
to his normal seat, sat down upon
the rustic stool and contemplating
the past few years he had spent
at Droknar’s Forge.
When he first got there he
was a young man filled with
false courage and the thought
of adventure and mystery but
it never happened as the first
time he came to this bar he
found his true love, Meredith,
she was the only thing that
kept him in Droknar’s
Forge her happy, caring nature
with her ability to make a joke
out of everything made her a
entertaining person but her
radiant beauty was what won
all men over, Tristan being
a nervous young man would never
ask her out on a date ‘he
was to far out of her league’
and that’s what shocked
him when she came over and talked
to him, they hit it off instantly.
A shot time later he proposed
to her and they had their happy
ever after but only for just
over a year when Meredith gave
birth to Tristan’s son,
Darrian, Meredith died in child
birth. As a single father Tristan
was over-protective and Darrian
being a young teenager he was
always ignoring his father,
they had many collisions over
Tristan’s protectiveness,
Darrian would always storm off
to calm down and then come back
but one day he never did the
last time he was seen he was
heading towards the rift; from
then on, every day Tristan would
head up to the rift to look
for his lost son, he never lost
hope.
The trips to the rift had now
become an addiction and was
not for his son anymore; each
trip gave him new strength and
the feeling of immense power,
he knew the price for his addiction,
his soul was now owned by a
evil of which has been stuck
in the realms of darkness by
the gods of which created him.
He knew the voice in his head
was not imaginary and that it
would get worse if he went there
again, as last time the voice
became so intense, he passed
out and when he came too he
had a deep cut on his face with
blood shining out; He was standing
over a Droknars-born dwarf with
a ravaged, dismembered body,
and both of their blood was
pouring into the rift feeding
the shadow, he had to go find
his son but the craving of the
power is what will keep him
going to the rift.
Chapter 1, Theodora
and Elijah [Tristan’s
Parents]
They ran in the darkness,
through the pouring rain with
the white mantle hot on their
heels, they needed to seek refuge;
they had been travelling on
foot for a week now and Theodora
and Elijah Thanatos were dieing.
Theodora was a tough
Cathan warrioress and Elijah
was a Tryian god-fearing monk
with all the answers. They had
been taken from their home in
Fisherman’s Haven for
speaking out against the white
mantle and their unseen gods;
they had been hiding in delivery
carts hoping one would get to
Lion’s Arch, a major risk
as it was strongly held by the
mantle.
The first cart they hid in
was owned by one of their close
friends who could take them
to Temple of the Ages but no
further, the closer they got
to the temple the fear they
felt became more apparent and
Theodora became ill, each morning
Theodora felt more and more
sick; They had achieved what
they always wanted, she was
pregnant.
“Perry! Have you anythin’
to make Dora less sick each
morn’?”
“I’m afraid I don’t
Eli, just this delivery of Tanned
Hides and I can’t see
that helping” Perry replied.
“Come on Peregrine, I’m
feeling awful and this is worse
than the white mantle; you must
have something to help me! You
always take some medicines with
you, Please!” Theodora
pleaded.
“That’s the first
time you’ve called me
my real name” Peregrine
turned to her and smiled “This
may help but I can’t promise”
He tossed her a vial of red
liquid and she pulled out the
cork and drunk it down.
“Hmph, it doesn’t
work…”
“Well she seems to be
back t’ normal”
Elijah laughed beaming at Peregrine,
He turned to Theodora and knew
something was wrong with her,
“Dora, Dora look at me
what’s the matter?”
She looked at him her eyes quivering
“I’m, I’m,
I’m *Sneeze* going to
*Sneeze* ahhh! That’s
better!”
Elijah and Peregrine faced each
other and couldn’t contain
the laughter, Eli nearly fell
out the back of the cart and
Perry had tears pouring from
his eyes but the laughter was
cut short by the bellowing voice
outside.
“I need to check you delivery,
we have a few wanted unbelievers
that need to be taken care of”
Chapter 2, Not so White
Mantle
Peregrine dismounted the cart
and walked over to the mantle
knight that stopped them, “What
is your delivery and where are
you taking it?”
Eli, Dora and Perry knew what
they had to do in this situation
they had planned it in perfect
detail, Peregrine would move
towards the mantle knight and
stand facing the cart making
a time where Eli and Dora could
carefully break away from the
back of the cart without being
seen, Eli would lay blessing
upon Dora to keep her from harm
as she strikes downs the pawn
from the white mantle,
“Gotta load of Tanned
Hides bound for Temple of the
Ages”
Theodora was never one to follow
plans even when it would save
her life; she dismounted the
cart from the front, “I
will need to check the cart”
Drew her sword and went in for
the kill. The mantle were expecting
this to happen, so they had
each search party in pairs.
“Behind you!” A
voice shouted from the woodland
surrounding them.
The knight, lightning fast draw
his sword and blocked the blow.
“Savant, now!”
The knight bellowed, “Feuerregen
unten” Chanted the unknown
voice and the streaks of fire
rained down upon the horses
and cart. The horses reared
up as the hair upon their bodies
set alight and burned their
skin, they tried to run from
the fire but the cart and themselves
were already burning. While
the horses were trying to scramble
the clanging and clashes of
the swords became louder and
quicker and a bead of sweat
rolled down Theodora’s
brow, she slowly reached for
her dagger while still defending
herself from her attacker, she
pulled out her dagger and launched
it straight through the knights
armour into his heart.
Eli took out his staff ran
towards the Savant and before
the she could defend herself
the staff drilled into her ribcage
Eli could feel the ribs break
through the staff, but any wound
would never stop a servant of
the white mantle, they would
fight to the death, the Savant
conjured a ball of fire and
it scolded the side of Eli’s
face; the rage kicked in and
he pounded the Savants body
with all his hatred; he brought
the staff behind himself and
with one foul swoop shattered
the Savants head.
Chapter 3, The Promises
Elijah tried to get himself
steady but the burn on his face
was worse than he thought, the
burn was all over the left side
of his face, the lack of energy
and his charred face made everything
seem blurred, he tried to call
out but no sound came to his
ears except the thump of him
falling to the floor.
“Eli, Eli wake up, Eli,
WAKE UP!” shouted the
strong willed Warrioress. Elijah
stirred, his eyes lazily opened
and he groaned from being awakened.
He put his weight on his elbows
and pulled himself up, the burn
on his face had disfigured him;
all of the left side of his
face was raw and open to the
elements.
“You didn’t think
you would get rid of me that
easily did you?”
She picked herself up “We
need to keep moving” Theodora
ordered, walking over to the
ruined cart with a tear in her
eye and a smile on her face.
“I feel it will be unsafe
for you two to spend anymore
time heading towards the Temple,
it would be in your best interest
to head directly to Lion’s
Arch” Peregrine sighed
“although you will need
to keep of all trade routes
you never know if the mantle
are going to show up again,
I’ll head back home and
I’ll tell everyone that
you needed to leave in a hurry
that you didn’t have time
to say goodbye”
“We cannot leave you now;
we have ruined your trading
business and destroyed your
only transport home!”
Elijah was now torn he needed
to save his wife and child but
he could not leave his brother.
“Tell Phoebe and Matthew
that they will see their grandchild
one day” Dora promised.
“And that they will always
be with us in sprit” Elijah
turned away from his Wife and
Brother and a tear fell from
his face.
“I will find my own way
home; I am not wanted by the
mantle so I’ll go to the
Temple and find a way back”
“Well then it seems this
is our goodbye but we’ll
see each other again, my brother”
